Job interview in another language: rehearsal and live
A job at a company abroad — or on a team that only speaks English — and the interview will be in another language. You can use Langless in two ways: to rehearse beforehand, hearing your answers translated and repeating them out loud; and in the interview itself, with your voice going out translated inside the call. This guide covers both, with the limits of each.

Open LanglessTwo ways to use it: rehearsal and the live interview
- Rehearsal — you say your answers in your own language, hear how they sound in the job’s language and repeat them out loud. It builds vocabulary and confidence. Works on a computer or a phone.
- Live interview — in Meeting mode, your voice goes out translated to the interviewer inside Zoom, Teams or Meet, and what they say reaches your headphones translated. Computer only.
You can use both: rehearse for a few days and decide, closer to the interview, whether you need live translation.

Rehearse your answers (Listen mode)
- Open the app and set the job’s language (for example, English) as "Other language".
- In Listen, pick Microphone. The target button should show "🌐 Translates to English"; if it shows your own language, tap it to switch.
- Pick the Consecutive style. Say your answer and tap "⏸ Pause capture".
- In Local recording, listen with "📥 Play translation" and compare with "📤 Play original". Repeat it out loud until you’re comfortable with the answer.
- Tap "🎤 Resume capture" for the next question — this erases the previous chunk.
You can rehearse without subscribing to a plan: see the free trial. The translation minutes run on your own AI key, which the provider bills based on usage. Use headphones. The voice you hear is the AI’s — the goal is to learn the sentences, not to copy its accent. For the difference between the styles, see simultaneous vs consecutive.
In the live interview (Meeting mode)
You’ll need a virtual audio cable (installed once) and headphones.
- Interview in the browser (Meet, Zoom or Teams on the web): 1 cable is enough. It’s the simplest path.
- Installed Zoom or Teams (outside the browser): you need 2 cables — the 2nd is required for you to hear the interview translated. On Windows, the VB-CABLE A+B pair is sold by VB-Audio (not Langless), with a donation from €5 (how to install); on Mac, use BlackHole, in Chrome or Edge (how to install) — for the 2nd cable, also install a second version of BlackHole (for example, the 16-channel one).
- In the app, open Meeting and set up both lines: "When I speak" (your microphone → "meeting hears" = the cable) and "When I hear the meeting" (the interview tab, or the 2nd cable in the installed app → "I hear" = your headphones).
- In Zoom, Teams or Meet, pick the cable as the microphone.
- Tap ▶ Start meeting and do a quick check before the interview time.
Step by step per platform: Zoom, Teams and Meet.
Tell the interviewer
The interviewer hears the AI’s voice, a few seconds late, instead of yours. Say at the very start that you use a voice translator: it explains the voice and the delay and makes the conversation smoother. It’s more professional to say so than to let the interviewer notice on their own.
Speak in full sentences and let the translation finish before you go on.
Limits and cost
- Delay: a few seconds between speech and translation, both ways.
- Voice: the interviewer hears the AI’s voice, not yours.
- In the browser: with the interview tab, the interviewer’s original voice plays along with the translation in your headphones.
- AI cost: Meeting mode runs two translations at once, so your AI key’s usage is ~2×.
- Plan: Meeting mode is part of the plans, from US$ 25/month, plus the minutes on your own AI key.
