How to install VB-CABLE on Windows (step by step)

VB-CABLE is the most widely used free virtual audio cable on Windows. It creates a pair of devices — CABLE Input and CABLE Output — that Langless uses to send your translated voice into the meeting. The install takes a few minutes and is done only once. Here’s the full step by step.

Before you start

You’ll need:

• A PC with Windows and permission to install programs (administrator of your own computer).
• A Chromium browser (Chrome or Edge) for Langless’s Meeting mode.

Step-by-step installation

1. Download VB-CABLE from the official site: vb-audio.com/Cable. Always use the official source.
2. If the file comes compressed (.zip), extract it to a folder (right-click → "Extract All").
3. Run the installer as administrator. Right-click VBCABLE_Setup_x64.exe and choose "Run as administrator". Confirm the Windows permission prompt.
4. Finish installing the driver by following the install button that appears in the window.
5. Restart your computer. That’s what ensures Windows recognizes the new devices.
6. Done: in Windows sound settings, CABLE Input and CABLE Output now appear.

Set up Langless and the meeting app

With the cable installed, all that’s left is routing the audio:

1. In Langless, in Meeting mode, choose CABLE Input as the output device (that’s where your translated voice goes out).
2. In the meeting app (Zoom, Teams or Meet), open the audio settings and choose CABLE Output as the microphone.
3. Use headphones to avoid echo and to keep the microphone from picking up the translated audio.

How much it costs

The basic VB-CABLE is free (the developer accepts donations, but it’s not required) and it’s already enough to send your translated voice. Only if you want a cleaner audio return in desktop apps (installed Zoom/Teams) does a 2nd cable come into play: the extra VB-Audio bundle (VB-CABLE A+B) is paid, a contribution from ~€5. In meetings held in a browser tab, the app captures the tab audio and skips the 2nd cable.
