A common question: "do I need to install Langless?" For most uses, no. Langless is an app that runs straight in the browser — you open the site and use it. The only exception is Meeting mode on a computer, which needs a virtual audio cable. Here’s, case by case, what you do (and don’t) need to install.

Runs in the browser, no program to download

Langless works inside the browser. There’s no heavy program to download and install on your computer. For the audio features (microphone), use a Chromium browser — Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge —, which offer the best support.

Rooms and Listen mode: nothing to install

To join a translated chat room or use Listen mode, you just open the link in the browser. Room guests install nothing — they join via the link and take part. It’s the simplest way to get started, including on a phone.

Meeting mode: the only one that needs the cable

Meeting mode (translating Zoom, Teams, Meet) is the only one that requires an extra install: the virtual audio cable, on a computer. That’s because it has to route audio between Langless and the call app. Learn more in what the virtual audio cable is and install it for your system:

• Windows: install VB-CABLE.
• macOS: install BlackHole.

If the meeting happens in a browser tab, Langless can capture the tab audio and skip part of the cable setup.

On Android: install as an app (PWA), optional

On an Android phone, you can use Langless straight in the browser or "install" it as an app: most browsers offer the "Add to Home screen" option. That creates an icon and the app opens full screen (it’s a PWA — an app that lives in the browser). There’s no mandatory store download; it’s optional and lightweight.

Remember: Meeting mode with the cable is a computer feature. On a phone, the strengths are the rooms and Listen mode.
