Learn a language with videos, pausing and hearing the translation

Watching videos in the language you’re learning helps — as long as you understand what you’re hearing. With Langless on your computer, you let a passage of the video play, pause, and hear the translation and the original audio as many times as you like, to repeat it out loud. This guide shows the setup, a shortcut for the passage you didn’t get, and the limits.

Step-by-step setup

  1. In the app, set the video’s language as "Other language".
  2. In Listen, pick "Tab / System" and the Consecutive style (the app remembers the last style used).
  3. Check the target button: it should show "🌐 Translates to" your language. If it shows the video’s, tap it to switch.
  4. Tap ▶ and, in the browser window, pick the video’s tab and check "Share audio".
  5. Let a passage of the video play, pause the video and tap "⏸ Pause capture". Wait a few seconds: the end of the passage is still being translated.
  6. In "Local recording", listen with "📥 Play translation" and compare with "📤 Play original"; repeat it out loud. The recording stays on your device only.
  7. Want to keep it? Download it (⬇) before moving on. Then tap "🎤 Resume capture" and let the next passage play.

Shortcut: just the passage you didn’t get

For a one-off bit of help, use the Push-to-Talk style instead of Consecutive. The first press of the button only starts: pick the tab and check "Share audio". Then rewind the video, hold the button during the hard passage and let go.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Consecutive and Continuous?

In Continuous, the translation plays while the video goes on, like an interpreter. In Consecutive, nothing plays by itself: you pause and hear the passage in the recording, calmly — better for studying.

Which videos does it work with?

With video that plays in a browser tab: the app captures that tab’s audio — a class, a channel, a series.

Does it work on a phone?

No. Capturing a tab’s audio only exists in a computer browser.

Does the recording go anywhere?

No. The recording stays on your device only; if you want to keep a passage, you download the file. The audio goes through the AI provider of your key only to be translated — Langless doesn’t store it.
